Our Story
The Pacific Way sits in the heart of downtown Gearhart, Oregon, offering both a restaurant and bakery that carry a rich history in this close-knit, family-friendly coastal town. With a population of around 1,000, Gearhart is famous for its uncrowded, 18-mile-long beach, the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi, and as the childhood home of food legend James Beard.
The building itself was originally constructed in 1929. It began as a mom-and-pop grocery store with an apartment in the back, followed by a six-room boarding house upstairs, which provided lodging for local loggers. Over the years, it also housed a realty office, an insurance agency, and even the town's post office, until the building was sold in 1980. After a brief period as a coffee shop and deli, the property stood vacant until it was transformed into The Pacific Way Bakery in 1988. A photograph of the original store interior still hangs near the entrance, preserving its legacy.
In early 2022, The Pacific Way’s historical charm was updated with a modern touch. The restaurant now focuses on local seafood and farm-to-table dishes, alongside an extensive wine list. The bakery continues to serve fresh baked goods and espresso drinks each morning. The Pacific Way’s deep passion for food and love for the Oregon Coast thoughtfully preserves tradition while forging a new path.
